De (Dans)Kijkdoos
The project the (Dans)kijkdoos is a combination of two of the main interests of my life: senses and dancing. How do we perceive dance? What do you see? And what do you hear? As a dancer I’m used to performing. Being on a stage. Seeing the audience in front of you. Hearing the music and dancing along the rhythms. Also going to performances you are always looking for the things that match. The movements going along with the music, seeing how a dancer interprets the music.
But what happens if we change it up? Not being able to see the dancer just plain in front of you, but needing to figure out how to see them or discovering what it is you see. And also what if the music doesn’t match the dancers you see? How do you experience the dance then?
By building a life size show box I created different ways to look inside. Maybe just only seeing a silhouet, or only seeing the dancers from one angle. Next tot hat I’m worked with a headset, disrupting the experience from the audience by letting them discover which channel belongs to which dancer.
